Prom is a highlight for high school students and for many it is the first time they are making the decisions about formal clothes, flowers, transportation etc. To help with the flower portion of the event here is a primer on how to order flowers for the prom.
First thing ask about the dress: what color is it? Be as specific as possible if the dress is blue, find out what shade of blue, baby, robin’s egg, shy, navy, royal, midnight and even Tiffany are all very different hues of blue.
Armed with this information the next step is to decide what type of accessory to choose there are several options:
Wristlett: dainty collection of blossoms that is worn on the wrist and can be attached to a simple band or dressed up with a bracelet of baubles, a metal cuff, shell cuff, wire armature or rhinestone band. The choices are many, spend some time and choose what you really want.
Nosegay: small clutch of flowers that are held in the hand. The flowers coordinate with the dress and are often dressed up with a decorative collar.
Flowers for the hair: A base is created from decorative wire and small delicate blooms are incorporated it is then finished with pearls, rhinestones, feathers or crystals.
Flowers for the arm: A free-form corsage is created on a flexible metal base then custom fitted to the upper arm where it is comfortably worn and looks great all night.
Necklace: select flowers are attached to a wire base that is worn around the neck and is accented to enhance the prom dress.
Rings and earrings can also be made from fresh flowers the earrings can be made on magnets if ears are not pierced.
A professional florist can put flowers anywhere just ask!
There is a section of the population that will tell you that flowers are passé and not used anymore. The reaction I have to that is “I am so sorry you feel that way. Flowers are a part of the celebration that makes prom night special. Without flowers it’s just another dance”. Flowers and accessories in the right hands can be crafted into beautiful accessories that should be worn with pride.
